April 2, 2012

Wow!!!!  Becki, you are an angel.  This blog was so messed up and Becki has worked on it to get it pretty much back in shape.  So here we are, writing again.

I will put lots of pictures in, but first, we are now on countdown with only 3+ weeks left here.  We are feeling a bit frustrated as we had over 10 investigators and have had to cross many of them off as they are not responding.  We do have several bright lights though and you will see their photos.

We KNOW we are being guided by the spirit and will continue to work hard on this island, Dominica!
This is Hubert Birmingham who we met from the open house.
He has read more than half of the Book of Mormon and can
quote much of it as well as the Bible.  He lives in abject poverty
in a shed no bigger than a walk in closet.  What a precious soul.
He will be baptized on his birthday, April 20th.

This is Rosa JonBaptiste, a friend of Hubert who lives
also in great poverty, but slightly better than Hubert.
The sisters, Cooper and Walther who were just released
as service missionaries, will continue to teach her and
prepare her for baptism.

Also had the baptism of Cathy Joseph (Joel's wife) which makes the family complete.  We are now working on getting them to the Temple.  We promised them we will come back when they go through.
The Joel Joseph family.  What a great day!

Also, there is a boy who lives a block away who is autistic.  He makes shouting sounds heard throughout the neighborhood throughout the day.  Elder Pitman felt impressed to seek out the family so we found their home and found a mother of 4, a grandpa (85 years old) and a 15 year old boy who is in a 10 x 10 ft. cage naked.  The mother does not know what else to do with him as he has become violent and destructive.  He is hosed off 2 times a day and stays in his cage 24/7.  What a sad thing.  Elder Pitman is trying to reach an autistic organization in hopes of getting some help for him.  We are starting to teach his family this week.

Now for some pictures of what we have been doing.

We are on a bridge over a 350 gorge.  Our equipment is for the 3 zip lines,
120 ft., 240 ft. and 840 ft. and a 28 ft. rappell.  It was awesome.

Helen doing the 840 ft. zip line about 300 ft. above ground

More pictures to come later when time permits.

Your story about the autistic boy touched my heart. I have access to many resources but am not sure what may or may not be helpful to the family, given where they live. Please share what you know, to date, about the family and the child. Another thought came to my mind as I read, though this is a huge leap of faith to even state it. Dad - pray to know if this child may need a priesthood blessing to cast out any adversarial spirits as in the time of Christ.

Your loving daughter, Camille
