December 1, 2011
It's hard to beleive it's already December, however, they have had lots of Christmas decorations up for about 2 weeks now. The weather is usually about 80 with humidity of about 90, so it's pretty sticky. Thank goodness we have a little air conditioning unit in our apartment.
We're having some pretty special experiences here, inviting people to accept a copy of the Book of Mormon. We have a newly baptized man, Joel whose wife is Catholic and we hope to be able to baptize her soon. We're giving him the new member lessons, the first was today at 9 AM and they want us to come back tomorrow for the next one, which is encouraging. We plan to bring breakfast to them and cook it there (German pancakes hmmmm). Also the other day we had a man, Malcolm, come and ask us to tell him more about the Church. He wants us to teach his Mom and sister who live behind us. The telephone company here is call "Lime" and we have our internet with them. We had a problem with our router and they sell them there. So, we had to sit and wait for quite a while and we got into a conversation with the lady sitting next to me and really hit it off. She told us about her Mom in the local hospital with a stroke and we told her we would go with her to visit. WOW!!! You would not beleive what a 3rd world country hospital looks like. We would never want to be in it ourselves. It turns out the lady, June, said her Mom is a member of the Church and lived in Portsmouth until she got sick and moved down to our area to live with June. Fred was able to give the Mom (Mary) a blessing. We contacted the Branch President and he is sending someone to visit her. He was very happy to locate her as he had lost contact with her. Of course we offered a copy of the Book of Mormon to June and she said she will read it and we hope she'll come to Church on Sunday. The work is moving along very well and we are loving it.
