Updates from Dominica

December 14, 2011
We've been really busy working and teaching and loving the people here on the island of Dominica.

Since we are the only ones in the mission and branch that has a truck we are often asked to help out with transporting the Elders to the airport which we did last week. We live in a rain forest and we can have a literal "gully washer" from one moment to the next. As we drove to the airport we found atleast 20 land slides, several requiring a bull dozer to clear the road. Fortunately we got them to the airport on time and were able to drive back home without any problems. Of course we had to stop and get a bite to eat on the way. There certainly is "beauty all around". Christmas is almost here. We do have a little tree that was left in the apartment as well as some decorations so it feels a little like Christmas, also a long red garland and some lights which we put on the pillars. We visit a family who has pretty scary steps...a photo is attached. I have wanted to pick some bananas along the road and we finally found some. See picture! This week we took a ride up to the highest point on the island and on our way back we saw a road that looked inviting so we took it up a hill. We found a lady there that showed us around and learned she is a member and had no idea we had a Church in Rosseau. She promised to come next Sunday. We are getting a new branch presidency so we have rented a bus to take all of our people up to Portsmouth where the branch is located in order to support our the new presidency. We know this will be a good thing. Hope to hear from you at: hbde@cox.net
